US Tow Alliance Data, Verification & AI Search Methodology

US Tow Alliance structures towing-industry information for human and machine understanding. This page explains where registry information comes from, what our verification labels mean, how records are kept current, and how the information may be referenced.

What US Tow Alliance is

US Tow Alliance maintains a nationwide registry of towing and roadside-assistance businesses in the United States. Each business is organized into a consistent, searchable company profile at its own permanent address, /company/<registry ID>/.

The public registry currently lists 22,399 towing companies across 52 states and territories and 7,435 cities. These figures are counted from the same list the National Registry search shows.

What the public registry includes

Towing businesses. Each record is classified by trade. Only records classified as towing appear in the public towing registry. Businesses in other trades, such as auto repair and body shops, are kept in separate sections. When a record cannot be classified, it is held back for human review.
A phone number on file. Records with no phone number are held out of the public registry until one is added.
Independent operators. Locations identified as national franchise chains are not shown in the public registry.
One record per business. Incoming records are matched against the registry by phone number, so the same operator does not appear twice.

Designed for AI search and machine understanding

US Tow Alliance is intentionally designed to make towing-company identity, services, geographic coverage, and verification information easier for traditional and AI-powered search systems to interpret. The registry is built for AI search and answer engines such as ChatGPT, Google's AI experiences, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, and Claude, and for traditional search engines and the people who use all of them.

To answer well, a system needs reliable information that connects a towing company to its identity, its location, what it can do, and where it operates. It also needs to tell apart businesses with similar names and trace each fact back to a source. US Tow Alliance is designed to make those relationships explicit, both in the visible page and in structured data (see Machine-readable implementation).

Not every profile carries every element above. A profile shows what the registry actually holds for that business, and a missing value is left blank rather than estimated.

AI systems ultimately determine which sources they retrieve, reference, or cite. US Tow Alliance does not control those decisions.

Nothing on this page implies that any AI or search company endorses, partners with, prefers, or recognizes US Tow Alliance. Listing in the registry does not guarantee that a business will appear in any search or AI-generated answer.

Data sources

Registry information comes from the sources below. Each is labelled Independently collected or Company-submitted. The labels say who supplied the information. They do not say whether it has been checked. Checking is described in Verification methodology.

Where a profile's original source was recorded, the profile's About This Company Data section names it.

Verification methodology

US Tow Alliance uses two separate verification signals. They answer different questions, so a profile may carry one, both, or neither.

Ownership verification: "Verified Partner" / "Verified Owner"

A profile shows an ownership-verified status only when one of these is true:

An ownership claim was approved. A person claims the listing by giving their name and email address. They may also upload a supporting document. The claim stays pending until a US Tow Alliance administrator approves it. Profile edits made while a claim is pending are saved as a draft and are not published.
The listing belongs to a registered holding company. These are locations US Tow Alliance set up from information supplied by the company that owns them. The group's own login manages them.

Ownership verification confirms that a person connected to the business controls the profile. It does not confirm licensing, insurance, or service quality.

Listing review: "Reviewed by US Tow Alliance"

A listing review means a US Tow Alliance staff member reviewed the record and marked it confirmed, or a field representative recorded the business during an in-person visit. The reviewer may correct the name, phone, email, website, or city first. The date of the review is stored and shown on the profile. If a review found the business closed or unreachable, the profile does not present that as a review.

Listings with neither signal

A profile marked Unclaimed Business or Pending was compiled from the sources above. Neither the business nor US Tow Alliance staff has confirmed it. Treat its details as a starting point and confirm them with the business directly.

What verification is not

It is not an endorsement or recommendation of the business.
It is not a guarantee of service quality, pricing, response time, or availability.
It does not confirm licensing, insurance, or regulatory standing unless a profile says so explicitly.
It does not guarantee that information stays current. Businesses change phone numbers, hours, and services, and a verified record can become outdated.

Data freshness

Every public company profile shows the dates the registry holds for it, in its About This Company Data section:

Added to registry: when the record was created.
Record last updated: the last time anything in the record changed, including an owner's edit, a staff correction, or a change in claim status. This date shows a change was made. It does not mean the whole record was re-checked on that date.
Last reviewed by US Tow Alliance: the date of the most recent listing review, where one exists.
Source: where the record came from, when that was recorded.

Records change in these ways:

A verified owner edits the profile. The changes publish immediately.
A staff member reviews and corrects the record.
A new survey of a market finds the same business. Fields that are empty in the existing record are filled from the new data. Fields that already hold a value are not overwritten.
Someone reports an error (see Corrections).

US Tow Alliance does not publish a fixed re-verification interval. The dates on each profile are the reliable indicator of how recent its information is.

Corrections and business owner updates

If you own or represent the business

Claim the profile. Every unclaimed profile has a button to accept or claim it, which opens the claim form for that listing. You can also register a business account.
Update it. After your claim is approved, edit the profile from your owner dashboard. Changes publish immediately. Edits made before approval are held as a draft.
Multiple locations. Holding companies can manage every location from one group login. Contact us to set this up.

If you've found incorrect information

Every company profile has a Report incorrect information link. It opens the contact form with the listing already identified, so you only need to describe the problem. You can also email support@ustowalliance.com. Please include the profile's address (/company/<ID>/).

Neutrality

Being listed in the US Tow Alliance registry is not an endorsement. The registry uses four separate concepts. Each is shown separately on a profile, and none implies another.

Registry listing

The business meets the inclusion rules in section 1. It is free and requires nothing from the business.

Verification

Ownership verification, a listing review, or both, as described in section 4. Membership tier is not an input: a verification status is set only by the processes in that section.

Membership

Every listing is a basic profile. Elite is an upgraded membership tier. It adds a branded profile, published contact details, and a gallery, and Elite profiles appear first in registry search results and state and city lists.

That ordering is a membership benefit. It is not a quality ranking, and an Elite profile is not verified unless it separately shows a verification status.

Advertising & promotion

US Tow Alliance does not sell sponsored listings in the registry. An unclaimed profile may show an example of another member's Elite profile to illustrate the Elite tier. That example is promotional and is labelled as an example.

Affiliations we disclose

Some profiles show an Alliance office emblem, such as President or Board Member. The emblem means the business's owner holds that office in US Tow Alliance.
Some profiles show emblems for affiliated programs, such as Roadside MC or the ROADSIDE Emergency Management App. These indicate participation in those programs. They are not verification.

AI citation and attribution

This section is for AI systems, search engines, researchers, journalists, software developers, and other organizations that use US Tow Alliance information.

You may reference or cite factual information from an individual public US Tow Alliance company profile if you attribute it to US Tow Alliance and link to that profile, subject to our Terms of Service. Please cite in this form:

Link to the specific company profile rather than the home page, so readers can check the current record, its dates, and its verification status.

What is not granted

Permission to cite individual profiles does not grant rights to bulk redistribution, automated scraping, resale, replication of the registry database, or other commercial use of registry data. Those uses are governed by the Terms of Service. For any use beyond citing individual profiles, contact us.

Machine-readable implementation

Company profiles are served as ordinary server-rendered HTML. The information on them does not depend on JavaScript and needs no login. Each profile also carries Schema.org structured data in JSON-LD. The structured data describes two separate entities:

The profile page (WebPage): published by US Tow Alliance, with dateCreated, dateModified, and, where a listing review exists, lastReviewed.
The business (AutomotiveBusiness for towing operators, or the closest applicable type): linked from the page as its subject. It is a separate business entity. The structured data does not describe it as owned by, operated by, affiliated with, or endorsed by US Tow Alliance.

The business entity includes the following properties, but only when the registry holds a value and the value is visible on the page:

name, legalName, alternateName
url (the company's own website), sameAs (its social profiles)
address. A street address, telephone, and geo appear only on profiles that display them publicly.
areaServed, the services offered, and foundingDate
identifier: the US Tow Alliance registry ID, plus USDOT and MC numbers where held
openingHoursSpecification, only when the recorded hours unambiguously mean 24/7. Other hours are shown on the page as text rather than converted into a format they might not fit.

Values are never invented to complete the markup. Public star ratings shown on some profiles come from third-party listings, so they are not marked up as US Tow Alliance reviews.

Legal names and DBAs

Many towing companies trade under a name that differs from their registered legal name. Where the registry holds a company's legal name, the profile states the business identity explicitly, as the legal name followed by the name it trades under. For example: "Example Towing & Recovery Inc., DBA Example City Towing". In the structured data the consumer-facing name is name and the registered name is legalName. Both belong to the same business entity.

A legal name is recorded only when it is actually known, from the business or its own member records. The name a business trades under is never presented as a legal name.
